Breakfast should be the powerhouse meal of the day, providing enough nutrition to kick-start your mind and body and keep you going throughout the morning. Whilst a whole grain cereal with yoghurt or milk can be a staple for breakfast, there are other breakfast options that also pack a nutritional punch. We have the simple, fast recipes you need.

There’s absolutely no reason to leave eggs on toast exclusively to your Saturday brunch. You could easily have it during the week. To do this in under five minutes, scramble two eggs while toasting some rye bread. Once toasted, layer on some avocado, before topping it with the scrambled eggs.

Packing your body with protein from the eggs and fibre from the rye bread, this nutrient dense breakfast should keep you sustained throughout the early morning, as the good fats from the avocado release hormones into your guts keeping you with that full feeling for longer.

If you’re in need of a sweeter morning meal though, it’s hard to go past a smoothie.

Add an extra kick to a regular banana smoothie, by adding a bran based cereal to the mix before blending. Bran also contains protein to help you feel fuller on those busy mornings. Combined with one banana, half a cup of milk and a few spoonfuls of Greek yoghurt, this breakfast is guaranteed to keep you feeling full, plus it has the added benefits of fibre, protein, probiotics and potassium.

It’s hard to go past such a sweet, satisfying meal to start the day.

And if none of the above takes your fancy, you should try the breakfast staple that has been in the cupboard of almost every household for decades. It’s one you can keep in your desk drawer or kitchen cupboard, leaving you with no excuse for skipping breakfast.

Oats make a nice addition to a winter morning, which can either be boiled with your choice of milk in a saucepan, or placed in the microwave with milk for 90 seconds. And to sweeten up the meal, add some frozen berries half way through heating and a teaspoon of honey drizzled on top of the meal before serving.

This classic breakfast base is proven to lower cholesterol as is contains fibre and beta glucan, while also being packed with minerals such as magnesium and zinc.
