Dame Helen Mirren has just given us another reason to love her!

The 68-year-old Oscar-winning thespian – who happens to cut her own hair, embraces her sexuality and is considered a total fox despite convincingly playing the Queen – has just revealed she has a mortal weakness for red wine and Tim Tams.

While on the press trail for her new film, Hundred Foot Journey, Mirren revealed to Famous magazine that she is quite the foodie and shared an anecdote about how she came to experience her first food “orgasm” in her 20s.

“The first time, I was very lucky when I was quite a young woman in my twenties, I dated a very rich young man,” Mirren tells Famous.

“He was a terrific gourmet and he would literally take a plane to France to go to a particular restaurant and have dinner there. This is still out of my comprehension. He took me out to dinner and he ordered this bottle of wine and told me that he was going to show me what good wine was like.

“My god, when I tasted that wine, I had an orgasm. That first taste of an amazing wine and I was so lucky that it was that good as well. It was like incredible. It’s never the same again. Tim Tams had the same effect on me.”

So she is human after all but it’s not just her candour about chocolate that has us gushing over the actress. Here are another five Helen Mirren-isms that have made us fall for the British dame.

The 68-year-old Oscar-winning thespian has just revealed she too shares a mortal weakness for red wine and Tim Tams.

On growing up in London feeling like a “fat spotty girl” but dreaming of being a movie star: “I terribly wanted to be Brigitte Bardot,” she told British Harper’s Bazaar. “I was a fat, spotty girl sitting on the sea front in Southend-on-Sea imagining, dreaming, being absolutely sure that a big producer would drive by in a car with a cigar and lean out of the window and say, ‘Hey, what’s your name? You’re the one I’ve been looking for!'”

On making marriage work when the sex has gone: “People get together for reasons other than sex and, although it’s important in the beginning for most couples, it’s not what makes marriages last,” Dame Helen told Women & Home magazine. “But I think the power of partnership in marriage is under-recognised in our society. That’s what makes marriages work, not sex.”

On admitting she’s a bit of a chicken when it comes to the Queen: Mirren told the Daily Mail she feels “embarrassed” at the thought of her majesty ever bring up her movie portrayal of her. “Charles and Wills have made reference and Charles made a joke about his “Mummy”, but never Her Majesty herself. Ever…I just feel embarrassed every time I see her, and hope she won’t say anything about me portraying her! I feel so mortified,” she said.

On cutting her own hair: “Not always, but yes,” Mirren tell Redbook magazine. “I can’t handle going to the hairdresser every six weeks, so I only go about once a year. In between, I get out the scissors and do something, usually rather disastrously. Sometimes I’ll even chop my hair the morning of a big red carpet event.”

On wearing stripper heels: In 2010 Mirren told Jay Leno that she bought a pair at a Hollywood Boulevard stripper shop for $39, she then told Woman & Home magazine that they she loved them for making her legs “look unbelievably long”.
