Prince Albert of Monaco has opened up about his late mother, Princess Grace, in an interview with the American news channel CNBC.

In the interview he describes his mother, who died in a car accident after suffering a stroke in 1982, as a “very caring and very loving mother”.

The 56 year-old, who became a father himself for the first time last year after the birth of his twins, Jacques Honore Rainier and Gabriella Therese Marie,   praised the legacy that his mother left behind.

“The way I see still today how she touched so many people’s lives around the world. People that she met of course, even people that she didn’t meet. Even younger generation that have learnt to know about her and discover what she was on about,” he said.

“I think that’s always incredibly rewarding to see and it touches people in a very meaningful way, and that she had that spirit, that she had that heart and generosity”.

The prince was speaking to CNBC while attending the World Economic Forum in which he participated in two forums on the health of the oceans.

In previous interviews the prince has described his mother as “hands-on” and “a wonderful mother and a wonderful person”.

Prince Albert’s full interview will air on CNBC Conversation with Tania Bryer on Thursday 26 February at 23:00
