Prince William and Kate Middleton had an emotional reunion yesterday after seven weeks apart.

William returned to the UK after a seven-week tour of duty in the Falkland Islands and was met at the airfield by an excited Kate.

It was the longest time the couple have spent apart since their brief split in 2007 and Kate was said to be “thrilled” her husband was home.

William landed at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and the couple drove straight to their two-bedroom cottage at London’s Kensington Palace for some quality time together.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to spend a few days in London before returning to their beloved rented farmhouse in Anglesey, Wales.

William will return to work next week, but has been given several days off to spend with his wife after their lengthy separation.

William flew to the Falklands on February 1 to complete a routine deployment with his helicopter search and rescue team.

His tour of duty was reportedly uneventful, unlike Kate’s seven solo weeks in the UK.

The Duchess of Cambridge undertook several high-profile engagements while William was away, including several joint trips with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

She also delivered her first public speech since joining the royal family last April. To the delight of the crowd and royal watchers, a clearly nervous Kate spoke of her delight that William would be back by her side before long.
