Doting Uncle Harry gushes about George's first smile

Prince Harry was every bit the doting uncle last night, proudly revealing that he had just seen his new nephew Prince George smile for the first time.

Speaking at the WellChild Awards, Harry’s face lit up as he spoke about George, who he had been visiting before the awards ceremony began.

“I’ve literally just seen him,” Harry said. “Normally when I see him he’s either sleeping or crying but I’ve just seen him smile. It was the first time I’ve seen him smile.”

Harry spent the evening entertaining children battling serious illnesses, showing off the same easy way with kids his mother Princess Diana was famous for.

Kneeling down to be on their level, Harry roared with laughter as he chatted to the children, even appearing to impersonate a chicken for one sick little boy.

The WellChild Awards reward sick children for their bravery and caring natures. Harry has supported the charity for years and gave a short speech at this year’s awards, praising the foundation and the children it helps.

“I’m hugely humbled to be patron of WellChild and I count myself incredibly lucky to be patron, as well as coming down here this evening,” Harry said.

“It’s always so clear for everyone to see how brave and inspirational the children are. It means so much to us, to see what you can do. It reminds us of all the things we take for granted. It puts us back in our box.”
