Federal Labor MP Kate Ellis pregnant

Kate Ellis

MP Kate Ellis wanted to keep it quiet.

The opposition spokewoman for Early Childhood and Education and her husband, high-profile columnist and radio announcer David Penberthy, are expecting a baby in early April, reports Adelaide Now.

According to the newspaper, Ellis, 37, was reluctant to make a big announcement but said “it was going to be increasingly hard to hide.”

After the accouncement was made in the media, Penberthy tweeted a message that said, “Sincere thanks from us both for the kind messages.”

Ellis is apparently yet to figure out the details of her maternity leave or how she will manage the workload and travel requirements of a senior MP with being a new mum.

“We’re acutely aware that our circumstances are much, much easier than those faced by the majority of new families so we’re confident that we’ll find a way through,” she said.
