A homeless man in the UK is being rewarded for his good Samaritan behaviour after he offered his last few dollars to a young woman who had been stranded on her way home from a night out.

The man, known only as Robbie, has now become the beneficiary of UK student Dominique Harrison-Bentzen’s, 22, campaign to get him an apartment to call his own.

While Harrison-Bentzen, who lost her bank card on a night out and met Robbie who offered his last few dollars to get a taxi home safely, didn’t accept his offer, she was warmed by his show of generosity, especially when he had so little.

Harrison-Bentzen tracked Robbie down a few days after his offer and has since set up a social media campaign that has so far raised thousands of dollars for Robbie.

Harrison-Bentzen also spent a night on the streets on December 16 with Robbie to raise money for her campaign and also to better understand what homelessness feels like.

She hopes that her campaign will not just raise money for those in need, but for there to be more compassion for those people who, for whatever reason, find themselves without a home.

“I hope my campaign will help people think a little more about the people around them, Christmas is a good time to think about other people,” she told The Mirror.

“If people can see what I am doing then maybe they can take the time to just stop and talk to a homeless person, hear their story,” she said.
