The Queen – who used to be a fan of Harris and sat for a portrait by him to mark her 80th birthday – and British Prime Minister David Cameron have reportedly approved a recommendation to remove the award from the 84-year-old.
Perth-born Harris, once a highly-popular TV entertainer in the UK, was awarded a CBE for his services to art and entertainment in 2006.
He was awarded an MBE in 1968 and an OBE in 1977.
But last year, he was sentenced to nearly six years in jail for 12 indecent assaults on four girls between 1968 and 1986. One of the victims was a friend of his daughter’s.
Well-known for his hit songs Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport and Jake The Peg, Harris is now being held in a wing for “vulnerable” sex offenders at a British jail.
Meanwhile, up to 40 alleged victims are reportedly seeking to sue him in civil court for damages.
Harris was given an Order of Australia in 1989, then advanced to Officer in the Queen’s 2012 Birthday Honours – but that was rescinded last month.
The decision to strip him of his CBE was recommended by an official Whitehall committee.
