Survivor of Boston bombing will marry firefighter who saved her

In 2013, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev detonated two bombs near the finish line of the Boston marathon, killing three people and seriously injuring several hundred others.

Roseann Sdoia was among those severely injured after the bombs went off, near the finishing line.

Firefighter Michael Materia saved Roseann, who had to have her leg amputated as a result of the explosions.

Michael was the responder who was put in charge of taking her to the hospital. With no ambulance immediately available, she found herself lying on a metal bench in the back of a police transport vehicle.

The New York Post reports he has rarely left her side since.

Roseann says her mum even noticed Michael was a catch while they were at the hospital:

“She was like, ‘Oh, did you see that firefighter? He’s so cute,’” Roseann said.

“And I was like, ‘Mom, I just got blown up.’”

Michael was there for Roseann during her gruelling rehab and the pair fell in love.

They decided to spend the rest of their life together with Michael proposing on 4 December last year.

Wishing the happy couple all the best!
