Cheeky Italian cartoonist Alexsandro Palombo has struck again and this time he’s sketched iconic Disney Princesses with mastectomy scars for Breast cancer Awareness Month.

The artists Survival Series depicts animated characters as cancer survivors in powerful and thought provoking images that he posted on his Humor Chic blog.

The Italian artist hopes the shocking portraits of these familiar characters will challenge our ideas of beauty, femininity and acceptance.

This isn’t the first time Palombo has riffed on well-known characters to literally draw attention to an issue.

In the past he has used his cartoon art as a springboard to comment on domestic violence and the Israel-Palestine conflict.

But the artist has also used his art to humour people by “Simpsonising” the likes of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Amal and George Clooney and members of the British monarchy, including the Duchess of Cambridge, knee Kate Middleton, and the Queen.
