It’s the Hollywood event fashionistas have been hanging out for: the 87th Academy Awards.

While the award show is officially held inside LA’s  Dolby Theatre, the red carpet is where the real fun happens and this year the stars didn’t disappoint.

The weather might have poured but actors stepping out on the red carpet certainly didn’t let it rain on their parade – they’re very very VERY beautiful parade!

Crimson shades proved popular on Sunday night with Dakota Johnson and Anna Kendrick among the actresses donning the colour but Rosamund Pike seriously delivered in her custom red Givenchy frock.

Oscar nominee Julianne Moore looked like a vision in her Chanel gown –which  featured more than 80,000 hand-painted paillettes – and was only outdone last year’s best supporting actress winner, Lupita Nyong’o who donned a dreamy pearl-encrusted Calvin Klein Collection creation.

The Theory of Everything’s star Felicity Jones stayed true to her English roots and blossomed out from a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown and fellow Brit Sienna Miller looked alluring in a Oscar de la Renta frock.

The usually flawless Marion Cotillard divided fashion fans in her Dior Haute Couture white eyelet dress which featured a very dramatic black band across the back but the French actress’ dazzling diamond earrings were her saving grace.

And as for the Aussie contingent on the red carpet well, they looked the best – but we could be a little teeny bit bias!

Margot Robbie – who attended the awards as a presenter – looked dressed for the wet weather in a sheer long sleeve YSL gown and a breath taking Van Cleef & Arpels necklace.

“I’m so lucky to be wearing it,” she told E! host Ryan Seacrest when he quizzed her on her outfit.

Cate Blanchett – who wore the most expensive Oscar dress ever last year in her $18.1 million gold embellished Armani gown – opted for chic and simple in a black velvet Maison Margiela Couture column dress with a statement making Tiffany and Co. turquoise necklace.

Naomi Watts looked phenomenal in a silver and black ensemble and our golden girl Nicole Kidman took a leaf out of her besties book in shimmering strapless gilded gown with a bold red waist band.

And while Nic eased up on the jewels she took her best accessory, her husband Keith Urban along to accompany her on the night.
